Carson City’s newest hotel opened up for business on September 24th this year, about 25 weeks following their groundbreaking ceremony back in March. While the difference of a few hours would have made them America’s 50th My Place Hotel to open, the day left us somewhat slack-jawed and completely amazed by the team behind our 51st location.
Take one look at the partners who raised it though, and it doesn’t take long to understand how Carson City’s first extended stay hotel hit record speed right out of the gate. Led by Tom Ames and Jason Welk, the Carson Hotel group is comprised of complementary experiences including the many years in construction and hospitality that Tom and Jason respectively bring to the table.
“We’re extremely grateful to be part of the growing Carson City community and for the remarkable partnership that made it possible,” Jason said.
“From ownership to brand, the collective experience and integrated resources available beginning at development through opening really helped us rock this one out.”

While the community came out to celebrate on a crisp day for Carson City, the team ensured its attendees stayed, played, and enjoyed some fun for the entire family. In addition to the usual flurry of passport tours and door prizes, My Place Carson filled its parking lot with outdoor activities, a photo booth and live remote by KOZZ Classic Rock and food by Bus Boy Mobile Catering.
While the executive delegation arrived onsite to celebrate the milestone, the ribbon cutting ceremony also featured faces familiar to the local community. Carson City Culture & Tourism Association Executive Director David Peterson kicked off remarks as the event MC, introducing the owners, My Place President/CEO Ryan Rivett, and Mayor Pro-Tem Lori Bagwell.

The property also furthered its commitment to the community with a contribution to the Carson Tahoe Health Foundation, which supports patients’ needs that extend beyond the hospital. In continuing the tradition established at groundbreaking, Amy Hyne-Sutherland came out to receive the donation from the regional hospital’s newest neighbors while sharing the organization’s mission with the community and its members.
When did I know I wanted to own a My Place Hotel? When I was building one.
