The Power of Saying Yes

I’m about the farthest thing from a hunter, but our last company hunt might have been my favorite gathering so far. Here’s why.

If there’s anything that I have learned over the past year at My Place HQ, it’s that you should ALWAYS accept an RSVP for a company event. Whether it’s the Company Picnic, Christmas Party, or Hunt, the opportunities you have to connect with your fellow team mates beyond the boundaries of your cubicle and the My Place HQ campus are plenty, but priceless.

I came to this conclusion after recently attending the 2019 My Place HQ Company Hunt where I was reminded of the value of coming together with my fellow team mates to bond, grow, and develop greater relationships with one another. Through longstanding traditions, My Place HQ makes these opportunities extremely worthwhile to take part in and they are quite fun, too!

The fun had is always one of the greatest things about My Place HQ culture and the way our events mirror and support it; but as the kind-of-new guy, I’ve found there is always something on the schedule and nobody is ever left out. Perhaps, even more importantly, these events give us the opportunity to just relax and be who we really are.

And for a team that works as closely and rigorously as we do, I don’t think we can put a price on that.

No matter who you are or what your title is, you’re on an even playing-field with those around you and on that playing field, everybody cares so much about you being able to be your authentic self. That realization alone is enough to prove the value of being an involved member of your organization. Being able to take that realization into the workplace and apply it in your daily work makes a world of difference and strengthens your team. These are the things that mean the most in fostering a welcoming culture and I am all the more grateful for the fact that My Place HQ has got it down!

So next time you get the invite for a company event, go out on a limb and say yes, even if “it’s not your thing,” or, like me, you just get a bit anxious. Go. I promise you won’t regret it.
